As of June 16, 2025, the Swedish Migration Agency has designated the Embassy of Sweden in Washington D.C. as the responsible authority for all migration-related matters for applicants residing in Canada.
This includes applications for:
- Residence permits for studies, work, family reunification, and extended visits.
The Embassy in Washington D.C. has already been handling Schengen visa applications for residents of Canada for several years.
What does this mean for applicants in Canada?
You are not required to travel to Washington, D.C. Physical appointments can still be made at the Swedish Embassy in Ottawa. However, if preferred, applicants may choose to visit the embassy in Washington, D.C.
Important:
All communication regarding migration matters, including appointment bookings, must now be directed to the Embassy of Sweden in Washington, D.C.
